Avebury is the focus of an amazing cluster of ancient monuments including West Kennet Long Barrow, one of Britain’s largest Stone Age burial sites, and Silbury Hill. The stone circle at Avebury, erected about 4,500 years ago, forms a huge ring a quarter of a mile across and encloses part of the village. You can also visit the Alexander Keiller Museum and Avebury Manor and Gardens. Stonehenge, monolithic and mysterious, is part of the same World Heritage site as Avebury and is the most sophisticated stone circle in the world. Not to be missed!
The beautiful Georgian City of Bath provides a fantastic day out. Visit the Roman Baths, The Pump Rooms, the beautiful Abbey, relax and be pampered at the Thermae Spa or just go shopping! There are open topped bus tours to take you around the City and also boat trips along the river Avon.
The very attractive town of Bradford on Avon is just 3 miles from Eastbrook Cottage. It dates back to the 1600’s and its Tithe Barn and Saxon Church are well worth a visit. The streets provide a wonderful selection of shops, tearooms, pubs and restaurants. Visitors can hire cycles to ride along the canal towpath or choose to travel by narrow boat.

Wiltshire’s most famous gardens, now owned by the National Trust, are found at Stourhead, where a central lake and classical temples were laid out between 1741 and 1780. The gardens are absolutely beautiful.
